Already 3 weeks in India, and more than 2600 km.
Lately I have been in Orchha where a fort palace is raised on a rocky promontory above the surrounding wooded countryside. I spent 2 and half days there and enjoyed my stay in this small and quiet town. That was so great after the awful Lucknow.
Then I travelled to Khajuraho, famous for the erotic temple sculptures. Do I need to tell you that many Indians guys talked to me about Kama Sutra? They should stop fantasming about the sculptures. A rickshaw wallah told me: "Kama Sutra is good for body. It makes you stronger. i do it every..." STOOPPP! I don't want to know ANYTHING about your sexual life. You look happy, that's enough... Some of the sculptures look really complicated to do. Easier if you do some yoga ;-) Well, that was funny!
After Khajuraho, I travelled to Varanasi. The Ganga is much higher than the first time I saw it. Impossible to walk along the Ghats. I got lost 2 or 3 times walking in the small streets around the ghats, and I took (again) a boat early in the morning to see the ablutions. I prefered my first time here but still enjoyed my stay.
Then Bodh Gaya, where Buddha became Buddha: Bodh Gaya is the place where Prince Gautama (Buddha) attained enlightenment under the Tree. The place is quiet and not too busy at this time. That was very interesting to see monks and buddhists preying, singing, and meditating around. I was also surprised to see hundreds of beggars there. It's the first time I see so many in a such small place.
From Bodh Gaya, i took a bus at 7AM last Sunday to Patna where I took a train at 10.30PM to New Jalpaiguri. I got there at 1.30PM last Monday and found a jeep leaving at 4PM to Darjeeling that I reached around 7PM.
Long long journey! And it was so raining, misty and cloudy that i didn't see any of the surroundings.
After 2 days I left to Kulimpong where I have a few hours of good weather to trek a little, and then to Sikkim (Gangtok). Still in the mountains. The weather is much better and the landscapes GREAT!
I think to stay one week in Sikkim and go back to Darjeeling for a day or 2 before to reach Kolkatta and fly to Bangkok where I could get a visa for Myanmar!
See you later for more news!
