Yeah, I'm wondering. Thinking too much probably...
What do i do? I really wanna go to Tibet. The last news I just got, is that it's almost impossible to reach it without tour & permit at this period of the year (possible if you are incredibly full of luck):
1) A lot of controls in Lhassa & check-points around Tibet (because lots of tourists/travellers).
2) It's not possible for a single person (foreigners) to take any public bus in Tibet. The bus drivers are not allowed to take us :-(
3) The last but not the least: there is a little chance to get a train ticket without showing Tibetan permit, BUT the security control to get to the train station is much more impressive now with the summer holidays (You have to show your train ticket to be able to enter to the train station, and must show your permit if your destination is Lhassa).
Then I have 2 possible options:
1) I take a tour with others travellers to spend between 5 & 7 days in Lhassa & around, and then reach Kathmandu by the road. I think the cost will be more or less 600-700 euros if we cook by ourselves (which means eating Chinese noodles everyday, and i'm getting bored of noodles right now).
2) I don't go to Tibet :'( or I prefer to say I postpone my trip (that's less depressing) and I arrange something else. For instance, from Chengdu where i am now, i can take a 3 or 4 days cruise on Yangtse River which is apparently fantastic (to Yichang). Then go as planned to Yinchuan (but a bit complicated, it's not the nearest town) & Xining area, and then take a flight to Kathmandu when I'll think it's time to leave China.
From Xining I can still go to Lhassa anyway, if I decide to go whatever the cost and however I go.
That's my wonderings these days. I know there are things more important in life, but still.
I met an Australian couple yesterday and they decided NOT to go to Tibet and spend more time in Nepal. They were so sad, I became sad myself...
Anyway, I planned to spend at least a month in Nepal also, which is, i'm sure, not less beautiful than Tibet. And important, I can easily spend more time to Qinghai area which is at the North East border of Tibet (Xining is the capital), and West Sichuan area which is at the East border of Tibet with in both areas high mountains, monasteries, nomads, and even some tibetans.
I feel much better now I wrote my feelings ;-)
I think option 2 is great enough to consider it seriously. I still have 5 weeks before my visa expires, so no stress.
It's already 1pm here in Chengdu, after wondering all the morning, I'm gonna explore the city, and relax. Will take a decision tonight.
